Volunteers

Want to learn more about adventure racing - but not ready to do a race?

Want to watch and support friends or family who are racing?

Want to go camping for the weekend?

The sport of adventure racing is growing rapidly, with many different races across the country, but there is one thing that every race has in common - volunteers! The sport of adventure racing could not function without volunteers. By volunteering with Adventure Racing Canada you will become an integral part of the organization and the race.

Volunteering gives you a taste of what the sport is all about and/or a chance to see how how teams 'do it'.

A few things to remember; Adventure Racing Canada wants you to have a safe, enjoyable time while you are volunteering. Volunteers will always be lead to their respective locations be they Check Points, Transition areas, or marshalling locations; and their task will be fully explained, to ensure that there is no confusion and all questions are answered.

We will supply you with:

  • A camp site, the night before the race, wherever possible (some locations do not have camping)
  • Lunch and snacks for the day
  • Drinks - water and juice
  • Hat - either baseball or toque depending upon the season
  • Souvenir T-shirt
  • Dinner (delivered to the Check Point if you are late or camping out)
  • $25 credit toward your the entry fee in your first or next adventure race

We have a few ideas to help make your day/weekend more memorable and enjoyable. If possible, we encourage volunteers to drive their personal vehicle to the Check Point or location they are manning or as close it as one can, this allows you, the volunteer, the opportunity to be warm/dry/cool depending upon the weather. We also suggest you bring a number of other items, - A book or something to read (it could be a while between teams); A camp chair (we have a few but some times not enough); Extra water - Sunscreen and bug repellent (Depending upon the season); Extra clothes, potential water proof ; A knap sac to carry all your belongings; And a friend is always a good idea, as Check Point's always have a minimum of 2 people.
