Transition Areas

There are usually two or three transition areas, during a race. During Urban and Enduro races (one day races) the duties are limited to loading or unloading bikes or canoes, separating bikes so teams can find them. Transition Areas can also be Check Points in which case, all the standard Check Point tasks must be done as well, or volunteers may only have to mark teams off the Team Number List as they pass through the TA.

The transition areas for Overnight races are a much busier locations; teams often have support crews to assist them. These crews set-up warm, dry areas for each of their teams, cook food for them, cheer them on and supply their team with the necessary gear for the next stage. The Adventure Racing staff and volunteers at these areas, also set up dry areas, cook food and supple items to the teams that do not have support crews.
