Race
Description (What is it?)
Adventure
Racing is a multi-sport team challenge. Teams of three or
four, depending on the race type and distance, travel together
through a course that will challenge your physical and mental
conditioning in an environment that demands teamwork.
The
'adventure' in adventure racing involves the unexpected. No
two races are the same: the race distance, order of events
and terrain all change depending on the location and type
of the race and, if that weren't enough, none of these details
are revealed until race day.
Adventure
races combine trekking/trail running, mountain biking, paddling
and navigation; with cross country skiing and snow shoeing
added to the mix in the winter.
For
2005, Adventure Racing Canada is offering you the largest
number, and selection of races across Canada. The ARC Adventure
Racing Series includes fifteen spring and summer races, in
locations across Canada (Race Schedule).
The Series offers a race distance to suit every taste - from
the first timer or active weekend warrior to the serious athlete
and experienced adventure racer.
Adventure
Racing Canada offers a race type, distance and difficulty
for everyone:
- Outventure
off-road races are fun, fast and short adventure races for
solos or pairs. Like a triathlon, but withour swimming or
navigation. For all abilities - first timer to experienced
racer
- Urban
races of 3-5 hours (in or near city locations) for teams
of three. Real adventure racing in the city. A fun and challenging
event that's closer to home and a little shorter distance
to get started racing.
- Enduro
races of 5-8 hours for teams of three, are the first step
into 'real' adventure racing; and the most popular adventure
races in Canada.
- EnduroXtreme
races of 10-15 hours, just
like the ARC Enduro, only a longer, more challenging day
of racing.
- 24-Hr
Overnight races are 24-30 hours for teams of four who
are looking for a tough, yet rewarding outdoor adventure
challenge. The ARC 24-hour Adventure Races are the most
popular long-distance race format in North America.
- Winter
Enduro races of 4-6 hours (winter resort locations)
Each
race offers a variety of Race Divisions for participants.
Teams can race solo or in pairs in Outventure races; and in
the Co-ed division (i.e. minimum of one member of each sex
on the team), Open divisions (i.e. All Male or Female teams)
and Master's division (i.e. total team age of +120 years for
Enduro and +160 years for Overnight) in all other races.
All teams receive a free digital picture of their team, a
hot post race meal, race bib, souvenir item, a chance to win
one of many prizes and the satisfaction of participating in
a fun and rewarding event.
