The
ARC Overnight Adventure Races will include a fixed rope section.
The rope section of the course will be installed by experienced
and professionally qualified climbing instructors, and all
participants will be inspected before clipping in, and there
will be belay and safety ropes in place at all time. Participants
will be expected to supply their own Mandatory Climbing Equipment
(as listed in the Overnight
Gear List), but all the ropes, hardware and climbing helmets
will be supplied.
It is highly recommended that all participants have
some rope training and certification, and if requested, can
demonstrate their level competence. Participants should have
the following certification:
-
Rappelling
-
Rappel Rig & Self Rescue
Note: Rope Certification can be provided by numerous climbing
organization/instructors, and they should be certified instructor(s)
which in Ontario is ORCA; in Western Canada is ACMG and in
Quebec is the Quebec Climbing Federation.
For
participants who have not received any rope training, you
can contact the following organization who is conducting clinics
on an ongoing basis, in a variety of locations, between now
and the race.( if they cannot accommodate your needs, they
can recommend an instructor in your area)
Call Equinox Adventures 1-800-785-8855 or 416-222-2223 and
ask for Paul Sevcik.
If you have any questions about rope training requirements
and certification, please contact us at info@adventureracingcanada.com
