Intro to Adventure Racing (What is an adventure race and how do I get started?)

This is a FREE information session about adventure racing and it is designed for beginners and anyone who has never done an adventure race.

Find answers to the questions: Is the sport of adventure racing for me? What do you do? How do you train? What equipment do I need? How does a race work? What are checkpoints? What can I expect to happen in a race? What type or distance of race is right for me and my team-mates?

Bring your friends and join us for a fun and informative Q&A session.

This clinic will start you on the road to completing your first adventure race. An info manual will be provided for you to take home. Each clinic will last about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. No adventure racing experience necessary.

Adventure Racing & Navigation Clinic

This clinic is designed for first-time racers, and anyone who has done one or two races adventure races, and now needs more information to help improve their performance.

The first half of the clinic covers teamwork skills, training tips, nutrition, hydration and gear use. It also covers the strategy that can/should be used for various types of races.

The bulk of the time is spent on navigation, the most important discipline required for any adventure race.

Participants learn the basics of map and compass skills. They learn to read and understand maps, map legends and scales. What do those squiggly lines on a map mean? What’s a UTM? How do I identify latitude and longitude? What’s magnetic declination?

Basic compass skills will be introduced, for map orientation and introductory bearings. Preparatory route selection and relocation techniques will be covered. How do I plot a course? How do I use a compass properly? How do I use that compass from map to the woods?

This clinic will help make you a more prepared and confident adventure racer. An info manual will be provided for you to take home. Each clinic will last about 1 ½ to 2 hours. The cost is $25.00 per clinic.
